The Carolina Hurricanes defeated the Boston Bruins 3-2 Wednesday night at TD Gardens.

To make it even more special, the Canes were hosting the majority of the team's mothers as part of their Moms Trip.

The game though was all about the Martys, so here are my three takeaways from the win:

    Marty (Martin Necas)

Ever since he returned from injury, Martin Necas has been electric.

He's flying around the ice, generating chances, and even backchecking more consistently.

He looks like the difference maker we all know he can be and Wednesday night was no different.

Necas opened up the scoring for the Hurricanes, cutting to the middle and ripping a wrister on a late, first-period power play and it marked his third straight game recording a goal.

Necas was everywhere on the ice and recorded a game and career-high nine shots on goal. His previous high was eight which he set last season against the Dallas Stars, a game in which he scored the overtime winner.

Over his last three games, Necas is averaging over six shots a game.

There's been a lot to love in the Czech speedster's game as of late and if he can keep bringing that energy, he can push Carolina to another level.

    Marty (Spencer Martin)

Making your debut with a new team has to be tough.

Making your debut with a new team who just acquired you less than a week ago has to be even tougher.

But making your debut with a new team who just acquired you less than a week ago and having to face the Eastern Conference leading Boston Bruins on the road is just a crazy challenge.

"He comes in to a tough spot and we throw him to the wolves," said Hurricanes coach Rod Brind'Amour.

However, Martin stood tall and delivered a terrific 25-save performance in the win over Boston, making quite a few crucial saves.

"He held his own and gave us a chance to win," Brind'Amour said. "Made a couple of crucial saves early and then a couple late obviously too. Good for him."

    Marty (Jordan Martinook)

Somebody needs to get this man some water, because he is HOT.

With his game-winning, breakaway goal, Martinook has now picked up six goals since the start of the new year and has five goals in his last six games.

A lot was made about his scoring struggles to start the season, and honestly, he was perhaps the unluckiest forward in the entire league through that stretch.

Well, now he's finally getting rewarded, even if he may not be exactly picking his spots.

"I just tried to shoot quick," Martinook said. "Didn't really hit the spot I wanted to hit, but sometimes you catch the goalie off-guard and I feel like that's what I kind of did. Didn't really hit where I wanted to hit, but it doesn't matter, it went in."

On top of his stellar defensive game, the added scoring is a nice boost for the group and is a big reason why the Canes are having a good start to the new year.
