The Carolina Hurricanes saw their eight-game winning streak snapped Saturday evening as they fell 7-2 to the LA Kings at Crypto.com Arena.
It was a tough pill for the high-flying Canes to swallow as they didn't even play that poorly. It just seemed like every chance the Kings got went in and before the team knew it, the hole was too deep to climb out of.
After the game, Hurricanes coach Rod Brind'Amour along with Sebastian Aho spoke with the media in Los Angeles. Here's what they had to say:
Rod Brind'Amour
On Seth Jarvis' status: First off, that's not what you want to see, especially in a game like that where there's just nothing going on. We're just trying to get through it at that point. I think he looks actually all right. I don't want to say, because you never know when you wake up the next day, but I think we avoided the worst. We move on.
On the game: The first two periods, I didn't mind honestly and it's crazy to say in a 6-1 game. The third period was trash though. Sometimes that happens in hockey. They made some nice plays and made some great shots on their chances early and then the game gets out of hand. I didn't really mind the game in the first two periods, but obviously we have to be better.
On Pyotr Kochetkov's performance: Like I said, their first three goals are great shots off the post and in and then one bad bounce. Now we're down three and it wasn't a terrible period. That was the problem. They've been lights out for us for a good long stretch here and tonight, obviously, it didn't go our way.
On turning the page: Well, you have to turn the page. There's areas that we want to keep getting better at. There's reasons they scored as many goals as they did. We gave up too much. We created enough offense. Just going to turn the page and make sure we don't let the bad vibes from this game leak into the next one.
Sebastian Aho
On the game: Just gave up too many scoring chances for them and obviously they made us pay. It didn't feel like we were down three in the first and whatever. I thought right at the start, we were okay, but obviously the game was over there at 3-0. It's tough to comeback. Gave up too much.
On the transition game: We have to win those battles every night and obviously more often than not, we were on the losing sides of those small little plays. They made us pay. We move on.
On if the team generated enough good looks: I don't know. Definitely we could have scored more than two, but having said that, it's tough to score more than seven. I don't think creating chances was our main issue tonight. It was definitely the other way around.
On moving on tomorrow: That's the beauty of this league. You get another chance real quick. Just going to regroup here and get ready for tomorrow.
