The Carolina Hurricanes have announced that winger Andrei Svechnikov will miss tonight's game against the Washington Capitals due to illness.

Svechnikov has 17 goals and 46 points in 55 games this season and has missed time for a multitude of reasons this year.

From recovering from offseason knee surgery to an oblique injury to another illness, it's been a tough year for Svechnikov and especially as of late.

In his last 10 games, Svechnikov has just two assists and has taken six penalties.

He was red hot in the middle of the season and looked to be perfectly back to form, but things have since fallen off.

The Canes have needed better from their star winger, but perhaps some time away and rest can do him good.

In place of Svechnikov, Jesperi Kotkaniemi, who was a healthy scratch last game, will draw back into the lineup.
