Carolina Hurricanes head coach Rod Brind'Amour confirmed after Saturday's morning skate that goaltender Antti Raanta will miss significant time due to a lower-body injury.

"Raanta's going to be out for a couple weeks," Brind'Amour said. "Nothing serious serious, but a couple weeks at least."

The Finnish netminder entered Thursday's game against the Colorado Avalanche in the second period in relief for Pyotr Kochetkov.

He played the entirety of the second period, but did not return for the third and it was reported by the team that he had a lower-body injury.

Raanta had an appointment to get checked out Friday afternoon, so it seems the results weren't too positive.

The 34-year-old netminder has a 12-7-2 record this year with a 0.872 save percentage and 2.99 goals against average.

Despite his prolific injury history, this is actually the first time Raanta will miss time with injury this season, although he did get reassigned to the Chicago Wolves of the AHL in December due to a poor stretch of play.

While Carolina had to default to calling up Yaniv Perets from the ECHL in the past, they now have a bit more security with Spencer Martin on the roster who they claimed off waivers from the Columbus Blue Jackets last month.

"It's good to have guys who know how to play that position obviously because of what's gone on here with all the injuries," Brind'Amour said.

Luckily for the Canes too, Pyotr Kochetkov recently returned from a concussion he suffered on Jan. 11, so at least for the time being, they still have a solid starting option.
