The Carolina Hurricanes will be without forward Brendan Lemieux for at least a little while according to coach Rod Brind'Amour.
"He got banged up in his last game of the pre-season a little bit," Brind'Amour said following Wednesday's practice. "He's going to be out for a little while."
Lemieux, 28, signed a one-year, $775,000 extension with the Canes last year.
He's coming off of a season that saw him as the 13th forward, playing just 32 games with three goals and five points in that span.
The physical winger played a large percentage of the pre-season on the wing alongside Jack Drury and Eric Robinson and it looked like he might have had a shot to make the opening roster, but this injury will keep him out for a bit.
Instead, it looks like Jackson Blake will be making the starting lineup, although Brind'Amour said the Lemieux injury did not impact the decision to keep Blake.
