Pyotr Kochetkov’s historic ten-game winning streak has eclipsed marks set by Cam Ward and Frederik Andersen, cementing the Russian netminder as one of the NHL’s most dominant force between the pipes this season.
Pyotr Kochetkov has cemented himself in the Carolina Hurricanes franchise record book not just once, but twice already this season.
The Russian netminder has been one of the best goalies in the entire NHL so far this year and his outstanding 10-game winning streak has broken a pair of records.
Not only is Kochetkov's winning streak the best ever by a Hurricanes/Whalers netminder to start a season, but the 10-game streak is the best winning streak at any point in a season period.
The previous marks were held by Frederik Andersen (eight-game winning streak to start a season; 2021-22) and Cam Ward/Brandon Bussi (nine-game winning streaks; 2008-09/2024-25).
Kochetkov has had an incredible run, leading the entire league in wins so far, and his 0.929 save percentage is third amongst all netminders to play in at least five games.
The 27-year-old goaltender has had some highs and lows already in his young career, but it's safe to say that this season has been by far his best and now the Hurricanes are letting him roll with the momentum, eyeing a fifth straight start.
"We're super comfortable and confident with him back there," said Canes defenseman Sean Walker following Kochetkov's second shutout of the season. "We know how talented and skilled he is. He makes it easy on the D on a nightly basis the way he can handle the puck and break it out. He's playing at an awesome level right now, and I'm just happy that we're able to limit those high-danger chances. And when he does get them, he's making big saves. So just super proud of him. It's pretty awesome."
