Per puckpedia.com, the Carolina Hurricanes have submitted their starting roster for the 2024-25 season and there aren't too many surprises with it.
The deadline for teams to be cap and roster compliant was Monday at 5 p.m. and the Canes made a myriad of moves yesterday to prepare for it.
Here's the Canes' 22-man roster:
Projected Lineup
Jack Roslovic - Sebastian Aho - Seth Jarvis
Andrei Svechnikov - Jesperi Kotkaniemi - Martin Necas
Jordan Martinook - Jordan Staal - William Carrier
Brendan Lemieux - Jack Drury - Eric Robinson
Tyson Jost
Jaccob Slavin - Brent Burns
Dmitry Orlov - Jalen Chatfield
Shayne Gostisbehere - Sean Walker
Bryce Montgomery
Frederik Andersen
Pyotr Kochetkov
Non-rostered IR - Jesper Fast, Joakim Ryan, Riley Stillman
So every projected starter and NHL player has made the team.
All three of Eric Robinson, Brendan Lemieux and Tyson Jost also remain with the team and while Jackson Blake was not among the rest of the cuts yesterday, he will not be a part of the opening night lineup.
Perhaps the most notable thing is that Bryce Montgomery is on the opening night roster.
The Hurricanes signed Montgomery to his ELC yesterday and those with sharp eyes may have noticed that his cap hit was a bit strange at $854,910.
That number allows the Hurricanes to currently be within $3 of the salary cap, which would allow for nearly the maximum amount of relief should the Hurricanes elect to put Jesper Fast on LTIR.
Fast, who's currently just on IR after being ruled out for the season due to a neck injury, has a cap hit of $2.4 million and while Carolina currently doesn't need the space, should they want to add an extra forward to the roster down the line, say a Jackson Blake, then they would need that space in order to add in Blake's cap hit of $905,833 without having to make another move.
It's not as simple as just putting Fast on LTIR and add Blake though because team's on LTIR are not able to accrue salary cap space while utilizing LTIR relief, but this does give the Hurricanes additional options for roster construction.
Riley Stillman and Joakim Ryan will also be starting the year on non-rostered IR
Stillman, who has been in a yellow non-contact sweater all of training camp, and Ryan did not play in the NHL last season so their cap hit does not count against the Hurricanes.
But this is how the 2024-25 Hurricanes will start the year on Friday, Oct. 11 against the Tampa Bay Lightning.
