The Carolina Hurricanes are reportedly acquiring defenseman K'Andre Miller from the New York Rangers.

Miller, who is an RFA this offseason, is also going to be signing an eight-year, $7.5 million AAV extension with Carolina as part of the trade too.

UPDATE: According to USA Today reporter Vince Mercogliano, the return to New York is expected to center on draft picks.

The 25-year-old defenseman has played five NHL seasons and has averaged eight goals and 29 points per year.

Miller has averaged over 21 minutes a night over the last three seasons as well, so playing a big role is nothing new to him.

He had a down year this season, but had a 43-point season in 2022-23 and looked to be on the verge of breaking out as a true top-four option.

The 6-foot-5 defenseman is a superb skater, with a strong first pass, that can utilize his stick and isn't afraid to be physical, all things that the Hurricanes love in a blueliner.

Miller has had struggles with defending off of the rush, mostly issues with gap control and overaggression in joining the rush, but most everybody in New York struggled last year, so perhaps Carolina is hoping to be able to remedy that.

The Hurricanes obviously see Miller as an offensive upgrade for the blueline more than anything, as they took a substantial hit in that department last season.

All-in-all Miller looks like a good bet for the Canes and a way to keep the blueline strong.

We'll update this when we learn what is going the other way in the trade and what Miller's new deal is.
