The NHL has announced that Carolina Hurricanes forward Sebastian Aho has been named the First Star of the Week.

Following the holiday break, the Finnish center picked up two goals and 11 points in just three contests helping lead Carolina to a 3-0-0 record.

Against the Nashville Predators on Wednesday, Aho had a four point outing (1g, 3a) as he opened the scoring and set up three additional tallies. Three of those four points came on the power play.

Against the Montreal Canadiens on Thursday, Aho yet again had a four-point night becoming the first player in franchise history to have back-to-back four-point nights in consecutive days and first in the NHL since Jeremy Roenick in 1999.

Aho had an assist on four of the team's five goals.

Finally against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday, Aho had a three point outing, registering a point on every Hurricanes goal.

He picked up two power play assists to open the scoring and then sealed the game with an empty-net goal.

Aho is the Hurricanes first Star of the Week since Brent Burns was named the NHL's Second Star of the Week last season for the week ending April 14.

He is also the Hurricanes' first First Star of the Week since Teuvo Teravainen for the week ending November 19, 2017.

However, Aho was named as a Star of the Month for the Central Division in April 2021.

Aho himself was last named a Star of the Week for the week ending on December 12, 2021 when he was named Second Star.

Artemi Panarin (5g, 1a) and Luke Hughes (3g, 2a) were also named Stars of the Week,
