The Carolina Hurricanes have announced that they have re-signed goaltender Spencer Martin to a one-year, $775,000 contract extension.
Martin, 28, was claimed off of waivers from the Columbus Blue Jackets on Jan. 19 and since then, he's posted a 4-0-1 record with a 0.922 save percentage with Carolina.
The 2013 third-round pick came in when the Hurricanes were in a real bind with their goaltending depth and has performed better than the team could have expected.
As such, the team rewarded Martin with a contract extension, which will round out the Canes' goalie group for next season with Frederik Andersen and Pyotr Kochetkov also under contract.
“Spencer has been an excellent addition to our team,” said Hurricanes general manager Don Waddell in a press release. “He stepped right in and played well for us, and we’re excited to sign him for next season.”
