The Carolina Hurricanes are betting on K’Andre Miller’s potential.
This offseason, the Hurricanes acquired Miller in a sign-and-trade deal with the New York Rangers, as they gave him an eight-year, $60 million contract extension.
It's risky to make this sort of financial commitment to a player who hasn’t quite reached his potential just yet.
However, Hurricanes general manager Eric Tulsky believes that playing in Carolina under the tutelage of Rod Brind'Amour could bring out the best of Miller that we just haven’t seen yet.
“I think he can be a really good fit for the way we play,” Tulsky said. “He skates really well, he closes out really hard. The way we ask our defensemen to play is really tailor-made for his game… All the signs are there that it should be a position that unlocks his potential.”
Miller is a player who has a lot of raw talent, but just hasn’t put all of the tools together yet. It was clear that a change of scenery was necessary for Miller.
Hurricanes Hire Jesper Fast As Development Coach
The Carolina <a href="https://thehockeynews.com/nhl/carolina-hurricanes" target="_blank">Hurricanes</a> have hired Jesper Fast as a development coach.
The 25-year-old defenseman has the upside to transform into a reliable top-four defenseman for the Hurricanes and be a staple on the team’s blueline for years down the line.
While there are clear aspects of Miller’s game that need to be refined, if there’s any organization that can help a player turn things around, it’s the Hurricanes.
