The 2023 second-round pick finally notched his first pro North American goal.
Carolina Hurricanes 2023 second-round pick Felix Unger Sorum has finally scored his first professional North American goal in game 18.
Last night, the 19-year-old scored the first goal in the Chicago Wolves' 3-1 win over the Grand Rapid Griffins.
Unger Sorum was playing on the half-wall on the power play and was the beneficiary of fortunate bounce which he buried past Jack Campbell.
The Swedish forward is in his first season with the Chicago Wolves of the AHL and it has taken him a bit to adjust to the style and pace of play.
To make matters even more challenging, the Canes are also trying to see if Unger Sorum can play center, a position he's never really played before.
However, you can see steady improvements in his overall game and he has three points now over his last three games so perhaps he's starting to get the feel for things.
Rod Brind'Amour had talked earlier in the year about the young kids in Chicago, saying that they had been playing well, but the results just hadn't come yet.
"It's a learning curve," Brind'Amour said. "You have to remember that that league's hard to play in. It's a professional league that's full of generally older guys." "We're one of the team that actually has all these young kids and I think it's a real luxury actually. We have all these younger kids who we think might actually be real impact players."
The win also featured a 24-save performance by Spencer Martin, Ty Smith's first score of the year and a two-assist night for Bradly Nadeau
