After 16 professional seasons, 1001 NHL games and two Stanley Cups, former Carolina Hurricane Andrew Ladd announced his retirement.
"The time has come for my next chapter," Ladd wrote.
Ladd's career saw him play for six teams - Carolina, Chicago Blackhawks, Atlanta Thrashers, Winnipeg Jets, New York Islanders and Arizona Coyotes - and he scored 256 goals and put up 550 points over that span.
Drafted fourth overall in 2004 by the Canes, Ladd would play just three seasons in Carolina, but was a member of the 2006 Stanley Cup Champion team as a rookie.

The 6-foot-3 forward would appear in 137 games with the Hurricanes before he was traded to the Blackhawks in 2008 for forward Tuomo Ruutu.
The British Columbia native would win another Stanley Cup as a member of the Blackhawks in 2010 before being traded to the Thrashers that offseason.
Ladd was named captain of the Thrashers at just 24 years old - also becoming the last in Atlanta history as the team would relocate to Winnipeg for the 2011-12 season - and would hold that title for five more seasons with the Jets.

He was then traded back to the Blackhawks in 2016 and following that season, he signed a seven-year deal with the Islanders.
The contract proved to be a costly mistake for New York, as Ladd would appear in more than 30 games in a season only twice due to struggles with knee injuries and production.
Ladd was eventually traded to the Coyotes in 2021, but the 2021-22 season would be the last he played after he ended up failing his physical following a third knee surgery that offseason.
