The 35-year-old goaltender will play in Europe for the first time since 2013.
It was announced today that goaltender Antti Raanta has signed a contract with Genève-Servette HC of the Swiss National League for the 2024-25 season.
This is the first time Raanta will play in Europe since he played for Assat in 2013.
This news comes after the Finnish netminder announced his retirement from the NHL after no good contract offers materialized for the 35-year-old netminder this off-season.
Raanta was coming off of the worst season of his career, having had a 0.872 save percentage and 2.99 goals against average in 24 NHL games with the Carolina Hurricanes.
This performance saw him be reassigned to the AHL, where he didn't fair much better.
It's a tough way to go out for the 11-year NHL veteran who was so good for so long.
Over his 277 game career, Raanta had a 0.915 save percentage and 2.48 GAA.
He was also exceptionally good in Carolina with a 46-15-9 record, but he was even better at home, where he went 31-5-4 over three years.
But now Raanta will have the opportunity to be closer to family back in Europe and hopefully he'll find great success in Switzerland.
