Carolina Hurricanes goaltender Frederik Andersen has exited Game 4 against the New Jersey Devils in the second period after absorbing a big blow in his crease.
Less than five minutes into the second period, Timo Meier, who was engaged with Andrei Svechnikov, collided with Andersen as he drove to the net.
The 220lb power forward made contact with Andersen up high and the Danish netminder collapsed back into the net. He was able to skate off the ice under his own power.
The officials called a major on the ice to review the play, but determined after that there was no penalty, probably due to the contact from Svechnikov.
However, it's tough to say that Meier did all he could to stop his momentum, as while Svechnikov did make contact with Meier, the contact didn't seem enough to be enough to force the Devils forward to hit Andersen.
It seems almost like Meier's weight comes from his back, up into goalie.
Regardless, it will now be Pyotr Kochetkov's net for the foreseeable future as Andersen was ruled out for the remainder of the game. The Russian netminder played the majority of Carolina's games this year and while he was hot for stretches, he finished the year on a not-so-great run.
