The Canes netminder was leading the league in save percentage and goals against average.
The Carolina Hurricanes received some tough news on Monday as coach Rod Brind'Amour confirmed that netminder Frederik Andersen would be out a bit longer than the team had originally anticipated.
"I would say week-to-week now," Brind'Amour said when asked for an update on his goalie. "So that's a little more time than I was hoping."
While the Danish goaltender had finished the game in Seattle, he was seen going to the bench and talking with head athletic trainer Doug Bennett several times over the course of the game.
Following that game on Oct. 26, the Canes recalled Spencer Martin from the AHL and then it was later revealed that Andersen was dealing with a lower-body concern.
The Canes had initially hoped that it was a minor concern, but it seems that his medical evaluation found a bit more.
Andersen had been off to a hot start to the year with a 3-1-0 record and a 0.941 save percentage and 1.48 goals against average, both of which were the best in the league.
With the 35-year-old netminder sidelined, it will be a chance for 25-year-old Russian, Pyotr Kochetkov, to carry the load.
"That's how it's going to shake out here, unfortunately," Brind'Amour said. "But I think he really wants that, so we'll see how it all works out. He'll be getting a good run out of it."
