The Carolina Hurricanes B-Team didn't get it done Thursday night as they walked into Bridgestone Arena and left with a 5-1 loss.

But that was sort of to be expected as Nashville rolled out a roster composed of nearly their entire starting lineup.

I mean Juuse Saros was in net for goodness sakes and of course he had another big game, stopping 40 of 41 shots.

But to make it just a little more disheartening, that was also probably the last NHL game that most of those guys will play this year.

The expectation is that the Canes will announce their final roster cuts before tomorrow's game and most of those guys won't be getting a spot on the roster.

Things actually started off well for the Canes as the "Young Guns" line got on the board early.

After forcing a turnover on the forecheck, Jamieson Rees passed it off to Felix Unger Sorum who passed it to Ryan Suzuki for the easy tap in.

That was about as long as the good vibes lasted as just moments later, Ryan O'Reilly tipped in a shot by Jeremy Lauzon to tie it up.

Things only continued to get worse as Filip Forsberg sniped one home short side on the power play and in the waning minutes of the first, Kieffer Sherwood added another.

The Hurricanes actually had a 22-12 edge in shots after the first 20 minutes, but the defensive effort was simply nonexistent much to Antti Raanta's dismay.

Heading into the second period, the Canes' offensive efforts started to wear away too as Nashville continued to pile on the goals.

First, Gustav Nyquist with another power play tally and then Samuel Fagemo put home another as he stood in front of Raanta unimpeded.

To make matters even worse, Suzuki took a high elbow from Nashville defenseman Alexandre Carrier and he did not return to the game.

Pyotr Kochetkov would take over the net for the third period and the Russian played well, stopping all 13 shots he faced including some relatively difficult saves.

The Hurricanes will be back in action tomorrow at PNC Arena where they'll be icing a roster that we can almost entirely expect to see on opening night.
