The veteran netminder has been out for multiple weeks already with what was designated as a lower-body injury.
The Carolina Hurricanes have confirmed that netminder Frederik Andersen will undergo knee surgery on Friday that will sideline him for eight to 12 weeks.
Andersen, 35, has been out for nearly four weeks with what had been described as only a lower-body injury.
He was initially labeled as week-to-week, however Hurricanes coach Rod Brind'Amour gave an update last week saying that his status was now "way longer" and that he would potentially need surgery.
And it seems like that possibility has come to fruition.
The good news however is that the procedure is not considered a major surgery and is instead more so just a clean-up which will sideline the Danish netminder for approximately eight weeks.
Andersen, who has dealt with a plethora of injuries including blood-clotting issues last year, had had a tremendous start to the season with a 3-1-0 record and 0.941 save percentage.
In his place, Pyotr Kochetkov has taken on the mantle of starter with a 10-2-0 record and 0.907 save percentage. He has been backed up by Spencer Martin who has a 1-1-0 record and 0.891 save percentage.
