When the Carolina Hurricanes recalled goaltender Spencer Martin from the AHL this morning, you just knew that something was up.
Rod Brind'Amour then later confirmed that goalie Frederik Andersen is dealing with an injury that will sideline him for a little bit.
"Freddie came up a little gimpy after the game in Seattle," Brind'Amour said following practice in Vancouver. "Not sure exactly how long it will be, we're hoping not too long, but we'll get checked up when we get home."
Andersen, 35, has dealt with a plethora of injuries over his career, but especially in the last few seasons.
Obviously last year's concern was the blood-clotting issue that he dealt with from November to March, but it's been reported that his current injury has nothing to do with that.
It's a tough blow to come at this point in the season because Andersen has been so good to start.
In four starts, Andersen has a 3-1-0 record and was leading the league in save percentage (0.941) and goals against average (1.48).
In his place, Pyotr Kochetkov is expected to carry the load although he was already slated to start tonight at least.
