The 2025 NHL Draft is quickly approaching and the Carolina Hurricanes currently hold six picks throughout the seven rounds.

If that number holds, it will be the fewest players drafted by the Canes since 2018 (also six).

The Canes have a well stocked prospect pool, with the team having made quite a few selections over the last few years: In 2024, the Canes drafted 10 players, another 10 in 2023, 7 in 2022, 13 in 2021, 8 in 2020 and 12 in 2019.

There's no telling if the six pick number holds, because the Canes are just as likely this year to trade down for more swings in the draft as they are to package some picks together to make a big move for a talented roster player, I feel.

It will be interesting to see what the next few days bring, but here's a look at all the picks the Canes currently hold:

    First Round - 29th
    Second Round - N/A*
    Third Round - 87th**
    Fourth Round - 125th
    Fifth Round - N/A***
    Sixth Round - 183rd****; 189th
    Seventh Round - 221st

    * - 61st: Traded to the Colorado Avalanche as part of the Mikko Rantanen deal. Colorado then traded it to the Boston Bruins as part of the Charlie Coyle deal.
** - Acquired from the Tampa Bay Lightning in exchange for the rights to Jake Guentzel; the Hurricanes' own pick (93rd) was traded to the Washington Capitals in exchange for Evgeny Kuznetsov.
*** - 157th: Traded to the Philadelphia Flyers for David Kase (but it was really to rectify for the trade they had in place for Tony DeAngelo).
**** - Acquired from Tampa Bay in exchange for Lucas Mercuri.
