The Carolina Hurricanes have announced that they have re-signed forward Martin Necas to a two-year, $6.5 million AAV deal.

The new contract will walk Necas to UFA status and is a significant upgrade from his prior deal.

The 25-year-old Czech forward had filed for arbitration but the two sides reached a deal before that was necessary.

“Martin is an immensely skilled player who provides a scoring threat whenever the puck is on his stick,” said Carolina general manager Eric Tulsky. “He will play a key role in the continued success of our franchise, and we’re excited to have a multi-year contract done.”

Heading into the offseason, all signs seemed to point towards Necas being traded due to the 2017 first-round pick reportedly being unhappy with his role and deployment with the team, but new GM Tulsky made it a priority to get Necas back in Raleigh.

Necas is a high-flying offensive stud who still has so much in his game to unlock.

He's one of the NHL's best skaters and has shown a real knack for finding the back of the net in his last two seasons.

Last season he had 24 goals and 53 points but just a year before that, he had 28 goals and 71 points.

The Canes are now nearly done with their offseason with just a single major contract to figure out, that of one Seth Jarvis.
