The Carolina Hurricanes have until 5 p.m. ET to sign NCAA prospect Kevin Wall or else the forward will instead become a free agent.
The Hurricanes drafted Wall in the sixth round of the 2019 draft and he would go on to play all four years at Penn State.
The New York native had a slow start to his collegiate career with just two goals and seven points in 26 games as a freshman, but he got incrementally better each year.
Last year, in his senior season, Wall notched 17 goals and 31 points in 39 games finishing his NCAA career with 43 goals and 86 points which puts him ninth and tenth all-time in Nittany Lions history respectively.
In both his junior and senior seasons, Wall led Penn State in goals and points so he's got a solid offensive toolset.
However, the 23-year old is no spring chicken and with Carolina lacking an AHL affiliate for him to further develop in, things don't look promising for a last minute deal between the two sides.
With the Canes already looking to have to send their prospects either to Europe or loaned out to other AHL clubs, Wall has a strong possibility of becoming another casualty thanks to the Chicago Wolves decision to go independent.
However, with his promising offensive upside, Wall should be able to land a deal somewhere else whether it's a two-way NHL deal or an AHL deal.
