The NHL announced the results of the 2025 Norris Memorial Trophy voting Wednesday morning for the league's top defenseman.

Cale Makar won the award for the second time in his career on the back of a 30-goal, 92-point campaign.

In total, 19 defensemen received votes from members of the Professional Hockey Writers' Association.

Carolina Hurricanes blueline star Jaccob Slavin finished eighth in voting this season.

The defensive stalwart had six goals and 27 points this season while averaging 21:34 per game.

Slavin is regarded as one of, if not the, best defensive defensemen in the entire NHL due to his anticipation, awareness and stick, but he's really a compete package player, able to shoot, pass, transition the puck and so much more.

While he may not ever be a finalist for the Norris, it's promising to see Slavin getting more and more credit around the league for his abilities and overall impact on the game, especially after his standout 4 Nations performance.

Washington Capitals coach Spencer Carbery sounded off on just how good Slavin is following their second-round series against Carolina, where Slavin was an absolute monster, shutting down nearly all of the Caps top guns.

"How he's not in the Norris Trophy conversation every single year, it doesn't seem right," Carbery said. "Obviously the guys that are there are tremendous players in their own right, but he's one heck of a player."

It's Slavin's third career top-10 finish for the Norris.
