The Carolina Hurricanes and defenseman Jaccob Slavin have agreed to an eight-year, $51.69 million contract extension that will keep the blueliner in Raleigh until 2033.
Slavin, 30, will be heading into the final year of his seven-year, $37.1 million ($5.3 million AAV) deal with his new one kicking in starting with the 2025-26 season.
The new deal is a raise of just about $1 million more in cap space which is in insane steal for the Canes.
The Colorado native is the Hurricanes' all-time leader in assists (223) and points (272) by a defenseman and is closing in on the games played record for a blueliner too (665).
Slavin is one of the league's premier defenders who utilizes his high-end anticipation and quick stick to effectively neutralize opposing chances.
The way Slavin defends looks almost effortless out there, but there's no denying his work ethic and ability to never give up on a play.
The veteran blueliner is also not only elite in his own end, but he's also a high-end play driver.
While he doesn't put up crazy scoring numbers, the way he can push play and even lead rushes makes him such a valuable player.

The two-time Lady Byng winner is also perhaps one of the purest souls in the league without ever so much of a hint of rage or anger on the ice.
Carolina isn't usually one to bet on guys in their 30s, but elite talent is typically able to avoid the age curve for much longer than the average player and at the price they're paying him, the deal is well worth it for both sides.
