From Phoenix draft pick to Carolina’s vocal heartbeat, the gritty winger celebrates a milestone defined by relentless energy and a pivotal role in the Hurricanes' modern resurgence.
Carolina Hurricanes alternate captain Jordan Martinook has officially reached the 800 career games played mark, reaching that milestone Saturday night in Philadelphia.
Martinook, 34, started his career with the Phoenix Coyotes, with the 2012 second-round draft pick appearing in 247 games with the former franchise.
The Hurricanes acquired the high-energy winger in 2018, one of the first moves made by the new regime and, in a way, his acquisition was the beginning of the franchise's resurgence.
Since then, Martinook has been an extremely effective two-way player, logging 107 goals and 262 points while also being an effective forechecker and penalty killer.
Beyond that though, Martinook has become one of the heartbeats of the organization.
A vocal leader in the room, but also an integral piece of the community both in and around the team as his passion and energy and has endeared him to all Caniacs.
"Honestly, I dreamt to play one game in this league and so to be able to play 800..." Martinook told team analyst Tripp Tracy before the game. "I think the way I play is the way I want my kids to live life. I want them to work hard and no matter what comes at them, do their best at it. That's what I try to do every night. It's been a hell of a ride and I hope there's a lot more to come."
