The Carolina Hurricanes grinded out a win over the Detroit Red Wings, winning 2-1 Thursday night.
Jack Drury and Jordan Staal scored for the Canes while Pyotr Kochetkov made 25 saves in the win.
After the game, Hurricanes coach Rod Brind'Amour along with Staal spoke with the media in Detroit. Here's what they had to say:
Rod Brind'Amour
On finishing the road trip on a high note: Tonight was a real good game, all the way. I loved our second and third too. Didn't give up a ton and created a bunch of offense. Did it right and we got rewarded for it tonight with the win.
On goaltending: The last two games he was solid. The other guy was making a ton of saves too and you've gotta match it. That's kind of the game that goes on within the game sometime. You've got to give their guy a lot of credit. Made a ton of saves and kept his team in. [Kochetkov] had to match it and he did.
On creating chances: We created a bunch of offense. Had a lot of good opportunities. Jarvis had a couple in tight, breakaways. A lot of good opportunities, but like I said, the goaltending performance for their team was great. He kept their team in it just like ours did when we needed it. Happy with the win. We have to move on. Have another game tomorrow.
On Jordan Staal: That's part of his game. He hasn't gotten rewarded very often this year. He's had a tough go with it on that side of things, so it was nice to see him get rewarded for all the work he does.
Jordan Staal
On bouncing back on the road trip: It started as the road trip from hell for a bit there . The boys grinded the last few and found a way to get in a bit of a groove. I thought [Kochetkov] has played really well the last couple of games as well. Was really a difference maker for us. Grinded out a win.
On his goal: The way we play is obviously trying to get as quick as you can in their end. Just kind of a misplay obviously. The goalie came out and missed the first time. I saw it bounce off the wall and went looking towards the net. Got a fortunate bounce coming back the other way. You take those when you can.
