Carolina Hurricanes forward Martin Necas will be playing in the 2024 World Championship for his home country and this year's host Czechia.
Necas, 25, finished up his NHL season with 24 goals and 53 points in the regular season and four goals and nine points in 11 playoff games.
The speedy forward last represented his country at the World Championships in 2018, but now will be getting the chance to do it again in front of a home crowd.
Necas, who will wear 98 for Czechia, will have the opportunity to play big minutes and perhaps center, a position he's always felt he's been best suited to.
Czechia is currently in second in Group A and Necas plans to join in and start playing right away.
It's a quick turnaround for the forward, having had his NHL season come to a close less than 48 hours earlier.
What won't be as quick though will be determining what the future holds for Necas.
His two-year, $3 million AAV bridge deal has come to a close, but he still remains an RFA under team control, albeit he does have arbitration rights.
Can he and the Hurricanes find a deal, or will the speedy Czech be a part of a bigger trade this offseason?
Only time will tell.
