The Finns defeated their rival in a 4-3 overtime win.
The 4 Nations Face-Off has been a smashing success so far with exciting, fast-paced games in nearly every matchup so far.
Saturday afternoon featured a matchup between the two European representatives as Finland and Sweden faced off, both searching for that key victory.
For Finland especially, the game was crucial, as a regulation loss would have mathematically eliminated them from the championship game.
The Swedes grabbed the initial lead though as Mika Zibanejad snapped a shot through Kevin Lankinen, who manned Finland's net following Juuse Saros' six-goals-against performance against Team USA.
But the Finns battled back with two Florida Panthers, Eetu Luostarinen and Anton Lundell teaming up on a 2-on-1 to beat Filip Gustavsson.
Then on a late power play, Mikko Rantanen fluttered another past Gustavsson, with Patrik Laine and Sebastian Aho picking up the assists, to give Suomi the lead.
However, Sweden battled back in the second period with two of the Tre Kronor's top defensemen, Rasmus Dahlin and Erik Karlsson, each picking up a tally to give them back the lead.
But again, Finland grabbed a late goal thanks to Aleksander Barkov pushing home redirecting home an Olli Maatta feed.
Regulation couldn't decide the rivalry matchup so the contest went to overtime where Mikael Granlund called game.
It was the best game of the tournament for both Rantanen and Aho who each looked like difference makers.
Aho's line with Roope Hintz and Granlund really controlled the pace of play and Rantanen looked like the elite winger we expect to see alongside Barkov on the Finnish top line.
The pair will need to have another big game against the Canadiens though if they want to keep their tournament dreams alive.
Team Finland now potentially control their own destiny too as Team Canada's loss to Team USA puts every team now at two points.
A regulation win on Monday over Canada would put Finland through to the championship match regardless of Sweden-USA as they now hold the head-to-head tiebreaker.
