According to the Daily Faceoff's Frank Seravalli, the Carolina Hurricanes are actively shopping defenseman Tony DeAngelo before the NHL's March 8 trade deadline.
DeAngelo, who came back to Carolina on a one-year, $1,675,000 contract after being bought out by the Philadelphia Flyers, has appeared in just 27 games this season and has three goals and 10 points.
After beginning the season as one of the Canes' starters, DeAngelo quickly fell out of favor and dropped to seventh on the depth chart, only seeing game action when other blueliners were out with injury.
Per Seravalli, Carolina is looking to get at least a fifth-round pick back for the blueliner and the team is even willing to retain 50% of his contract ($837,500).
The Hurricanes already tried to move DeAngelo earlier in the season but have been unable to find a suitor for the former 50+ point, power play quarterback.
However, after Jalen Chatfield missed six games last month with an upper-body injury, DeAngelo came in and played some of his best minutes of the season against some really high-end teams, so perhaps that performance has changed some teams' opinions.
A potential move seems to be more in line with allowing DeAngelo a chance to play regular minutes again, but it would also open up a roster spot and a bit of cap space for the Hurricanes.
