Carolina Hurricanes coach Rod Brind'Amour seemed to imply today that newly signed defenseman Scott Morrow will make his NHL debut tonight.
When asked about any potential lineup changes by team reporter Walt Ruff, Brind'Amour said, "We have a couple guys that are nicked up and we're going to keep them out tonight just based on the fact that we don't need to play guys. So we do have a few changes."
When asked specifically about Morrow, "He's probably going to get in."
The 21-year-old defender signed with the team just a week earlier following his junior season at UMass and it seems like he'll already be getting an NHL game under his belt.
"Very exciting, " Morrow said yesterday when asked about the possibility of him playing a game on this road trip. "I'm looking forward to it a lot. Hopefully I really take advantage of it like I know I can."
His coach isn't putting any pressures on him either.
"Just go play his game," Brind'Amour said when asked what he was looking for from Morrow. "Not a lot of expectations here. He's new to the group and we know we have a good player there. Just play free and see what happens.
"He's a good player and he's going to get better, just right now, you don't want to overdue it. Just have to trust your instincts and go play hockey. You'd be surprised by how well you can do with just that. Obviously there'll be a lot of mistakes, and that's part of it, but those will be teachable moments. Just go out and do what you got to do."
