No Necas? No problem.
In his first overtime victory without since the trade of former teammate Martin Necas, Sebastian Aho continued his post-regulation dominance, as he netted his fifth overtime winner of the season (16th of his career) in a 2-1 win over the Calgary Flames on Sunday.
"That was a good play by Slavo," Aho said. "I got a step on my guy and he realized it and found me in a good spot to shoot."
Aho's five overtime winners are the most in the league this season and ties him for the all-time record for OT winners in a single season.
The Finnish centerman joins Brad Marchand (2017-18), Alex Galchenyuk (2016-17), Jonathan Toews (2015-16) and Steven Stamkos (2011-12) as the only other player to have five overtime game-winning goals in a single season.
Aho's 16 career overtime goals are a franchise record and also ties him for the eighth most all-time in league history.
"There's a lot of room out there and he can be creative and he's just competitive as heck," said Carolina coach Rod Brind'Amour on Aho's overtime success. "So I think those combinations help and suit him in that type of environment."
