The Carolina Hurricanes piled up the shots and the pressure, but they couldn't break Laurent Brossoit and the Winnipeg Jets, falling 2-1 Monday night.

Following the game, Hurricanes coach Rod Brind'Amour along with Martin Necas and Jalen Chatfield spoke with the media.

Here's what they had to say:

    Rod Brind'Amour

On his takeaways: We played a good game. I don't know. That's a really good team and I thought we pretty much dominated the first period and we're down one. It's just the way it goes sometimes. We weren't able to get to the back of the net and then the middle period was probably even and I thought the third period, again, we were pretty good. Had a lot of opportunities just weren't able to find the back of the net.

On the Winnipeg Jets: Definitely that top-end talent is elite. As good as you get. And when they're humming along, it's tough to handle. Obviously they were the difference in the game and clearly they've got some good depth in goal and everything. It's nice when you can roll that out.

On mid-game line changes: It was nothing really special. I went back to it after... It was just a couple of little things with the matches that I didn't really love, but at the end of the day, I don't know much more we could have done. We did a pretty good job. They're going to get some chances. They have elite players. They were just able to capitalize and we weren't.

On being able to reset on the road trip: There's no advantage to being on the road, but I think we just have to stay positive. If we can get that kind of game night in and night out, which basically we have here for the last month, we should get good results, so we just have to stick with it.

On Antti Raanta: You can't fault him on anything. He kept us in there and that's what he needs to do. It's just that their goalie was the difference tonight.

    Martin Necas

On his takeaways: We always get a lot of shots, but I feel like we gave up... We don't give up that many shots, but when we give up some shots, they are grade-As and it's tough on the goalie. We just have to figure out that because it's happened a lot this season. Games like that.

On his line: Whenever we get out there, we've got to try to get the most of it and just play in the o-zone and try to create a lot. Obviously I feel like, even though it's a fourth line, I play with two great linemates and it's been kind of working, but we've gotta get better and better and build some chemistry.

On how to beat a hot goaltender: Try to get in front. A lot of shots that are kind of around. Not many shots right in front, so he sees everything and it's kind of easy to stop. Then he gets going and he's in the game. Just get in front and try to tip some pucks.

On the even-strength game: We play kind of the whole season like that. Lots of games this year I feel like we kind of dominate if you look at it from a shots perspective, but we're not winning. So like I said, try to create more grade-As and get in front.

    Jalen Chatfield

On what made the game difficult to close out: That we didn't get the win. I think we took a couple of breathers and they capitalized on it, but I think we have a lot of positives. I thought we played a pretty decent game, we just have to move on.

On the team's volume shooting: We want to get shots on net. You shoot when you're trying to score, so I think that's a positive. We just have to keep firing and the goals will come. Tonight, they didn't but I like our odds if we're putting up 40+ shots a game.

On the mentality for the road trip: We wanted to start the road trip with a win, but it's a long road trip and we don't want to dwell on it too much. Learn from our mistakes and move forward because we have some other tough games coming up and we want to get those wins. Just keep moving from here.
