The Carolina Hurricanes will look to stay perfect at home tonight as they take on the Philadelphia Flyers.
Lineups and Game Preview: Carolina Hurricanes vs. Philadelphia Flyers: Lineups and Game Preview
Here are my three keys to the game:
Consistency
Having a good game isn't hard.
Any team can play well for one game.
What's hard is doing that over and over and over again.
The Hurricanes had one of their best games of the season against the Tampa Bay Lightning Saturday night and the challenge now will be following that up.
The challenge falls on the forwards to buy in to the forechecking system, the defense to play strong and consistent man coverage and on Pyotr Kochetkov to stay locked in.
Do all that and the Canes can string together a lot more wins.
Contributions From the Blueline
The Canes are built from the backend.
The defense is built to skate, defend, but also to score.
Carolina is 4-1-0 this season when they get two or more goals from their defense, so if they can keep feeding those shots from the blueline, they'll be cooking.
With a defense built to contribute, it's key that they find ways to get on the scoresheet.
Don't Feed Philly's Transition Game
The Flyers have a young and fast team with some potent offensive talent. However, they haven't really found a way to sustain offensive pressure yet.
In it's place, Philadelphia has relied on its transition game to feed its scoring.
Players like Travis Konecny, Cam Atkinson and Owen Tippett can really make you pay if you mistime a pinch or if the forwards are careless in the neutral zone.
Those sort of mistakes are what got Carolina in trouble in their first meeting and controlling that will be integral in this game.
