Three generations of Blackhawks stars were on-stage at a pulsing, sold-out United Center on Sunday.
Chris Chelios. Patrick Kane. Connor Bedard. All before a season-high 21,141 fans.
Kane had the final word — and it really was "showtime" in a celly. The 35-year-old forward scored on a breakaway at 1:43 of overtime to give the Red Wings a 3-2 win. See video https://x.com/swankywolverine/status/1761935496450580889?s=20

Kane's 12th goal capped his first game at the United Center with a team other than the Blackhawks. He played his first 16 seasons with Chicago before being traded at the deadline last February.
The last-place Blackhawks had to settle for a point and OT loss for the second straight game when they couldn't hold on late. Chicago has just one win in its last 13 games (1-9-3).

Detroit's Alex DeBrincat, like Kane a former Blackhawk, scored with 4:16 left in the third to tie it at 2. DeBrincat notched his 22nd goal from below the goal line when his pass deflected in off the pad of Petr Mrazek.
DeBrincat then sprung Kane with a long pass in OT moments after Bedard and the Blackhawks had a chance. After slowing down, Kane made stutter stick move and beat Mrazek high on the glove side.
"I was behind the play there in overtime and saw we had the puck so tried to take off," Kane said. "Good feeling getting that breakaway. I think you know the feeling of the moment when you get that puck, but just tried to stick with what I wanted to do. Luckily enough, saw it go in.

"I don’t think we had our best as a team tonight but we still found a way," he added. "Huge goal by DeBrincat to get it to 2-2."
Kane also picked up an assist as he extended his points streak to eight games. He has five goals and 12 points since coming back from a lower-body injury, and has scored in three straight contests.
Bedard set up Nick Foligno's deflected power-play play goal with 2:08 left in the second to put Chicago ahead 2-1. The shot went in off Foligno's hand.
"Having the lead... disappointed we let it slip away," Foligno said. "But the effort is always there. And I guess the structure with which we played was a lot better in this game.
"I appreciated it from the guys, but got to close games, too."

The 18-year-old Bedard leads NHL rookies with 40 points in 45 games. He was stopped on a breakaway by James Reimer midway through third and finished with three shots on goal, while attempting three others.
The resurgent, 36-year-old Foligno scored his 14th goal, his most in a season since 2018-19 with Columbus, and has points in eight of nine games.
Chicago's MacKenzie Entwistle also connected. Mrazek, who started his career with Detroit, made 28 saves. Chicago put 35 shots on Reimer.

The Blackhawks came out with energy after an elaborate ceremony to retire Hall-of-Fame defenseman Chris Chelios' No. 7. The event drew Wayne Gretzky, Mark Messier, former Blackhawks stars and Hollywood stars among Chelios friends and family. See the story in the link and the video.
With Sunday's game still scoreless in the first period, the Blackhawks honored Kane with a video tribute. Kane, who signed a free agent deal with Detroit in November, received a huge ovation — with two curtain calls — from the crowd.
Kane, drafted first overall by the Blackhawks in 2007, was traded last February to the New York Rangers. He then signed with the Wings following successful hip resurfacing surgery.
Kane is second only to Stan Mikita in points on the Blackhawks all-time list with 1,225 in 1,161 contests.
Kane and Bedard are the only first-overall draft picks in Blackhawks history. Kane went on to help Chicago to Stanley Cups in 2010, 2013 and 2015.
Chicago had several prime chances in the first period Sunday, but Detroit's Daniel Sprong opened the scoring wtih 41 seconds left in the frame. Sprong lunged into a shot from the left circle and beat Mrazek through a screen for his 16th goal.
Entwistle powered to the net and jammed the puck past Reimer at 3:29 of the second to tie it. He was set up by Reese Johnson's feed from behind the net.
Bedard's shot from the left circle ticked in off Foligno, who was parked in front late in the period, to make it 2-1.
