The Chicago Blackhawks will have Patrick Kane back at the United Center on Tuesday for the home opener.
The long-anticipated day has finally come. It is the Chicago Blackhawks home opener. More than usual, there is an extra sense of excitement surrounding the event. This is Patrick Kane’s first game at the United Center as a member of the Blackhawks since being traded away in 2023.
Kane is one of the greatest players in franchise history, and has a case to be considered number 1 when he retired. Not only did he put up big-time regular-season numbers, but he was an offensive catalyst on multiple championship teams. Winning, more than anything, is why he is as revered as any athlete in recent Chicago history.
The Blackhawks are 0-3-0, coming back to the UC for their home opener. On the ice, things have not gone well for them. Defensively, it's been a disaster, and they've only scored five goals in three games.
The return of Patrick Kane will certainly have the United Center rocking, which could be a boost to the team's play on the ice, but only time will tell. Kane, for one, is excited.
"It'll be interesting to be playing a home game now after all this time," Kane said. "It's been a while. I'm looking forward to being on the home side at the United Center. Hopefully get a win tomorrow and make everything that much sweeter."
Connor Bedard will not be in the Blackhawks' lineup, which is a tough break for him during this exciting time, but he will be back soon, and Kane is very excited about that.
"Obviously, we know how big he is to our team and how much he means to our team," Kane said. "He looks good to me. Obviously, we'd love to have him back as soon as possible. You want him to take care of himself, though, and make sure he's good for the rest of his career, but yeah, we definitely miss him."
Bedard, Chicago's newest captain, will be in the presence of the greatest captain in team history for a while. Jonathan Toews has made his way to Chicago in celebration of Kane's return to the Blackhawks. He was at the Blackhawks' morning skate ahead of the home opener.
This is going to be a special night for Patrick Kane, as his name will create thunderous applause, but it is also a big event in Chicago sports history. A legend has returned, and despite the state of the team, there is a general sense of excitement.
