The Chicago Blackhawks have sent three more players to the American Hockey League's Rockford IceHogs.
On Friday, the Chicago Blackhawks made more roster cuts. This round includes 3 forwards: AJ Spellacy, Sacha Boisvert, and Connor Mylymok, who have all been loaned to the Rockford IceHogs of the American Hockey League.
With this transaction, the Blackhawks roster is down to 29 players, including 17 forwards, 9 defensemen, and 3 goaltenders. There is still another wave of cuts, maybe two, to make. Whether it's 1 or 2 will depend on their plans for the final preseason game. We already know Patrick Kane will not play in that game.
Mylymok going back was a lock. Spellacy and Boisvert don't have a place on the team just yet either, but they are much closer.
Boisvert had a big fight in Thursday night's preseason game, which will certainly get him noticed. It wasn't the most dominant prospect or regular camp for Boisvert, but he started to come along as the days passed.
Spellacy, on the other hand, has been steadily climbing the ranks for a few years now. He was outstanding in the Prospect Showcase, and he's had a great camp. He was ejected during the Thursday night preseason game for head-butting, but it's still a sign that he's always in the mix one way or another.
Both Boisvert and Spellacy are forward call-up candidates if injuries or performances force the issue during 2026-27. Boisvert played a handful of games after his season at Boston University ended last spring, but Spellacy is still looking to make his NHL debut.
The final few days of camp, including Saturday night's final preseason game (home against the St. Louis Blues), will determine the final decisions on the opening night roster.
