The Chicago Blackhawks, who are in full seller mode already having moved Connor Murphy and Jason Dickinson, have traded their captain, Nick Foligno, to the Minnesota Wild.
Nick Foligno, who has been with the Blackhawks for three seasons, is going to be united with his brother, Marcus Foligno, in a Wild sweater.
While in a Blackhawks sweater, Foligno made his mark by being an incredible leader for some of the young players in the organization. Connor Bedard, Frank Nazar, and Oliver Moore, amongst many other prospects, have benefited from learning how to play pro hockey from a captain like that.
Foligno was signed to be the captain after Jonathan Toews and before Connor Bedard. They won't make that move until the off-season, but everybody knows it's coming.
Getting "future considerations" for Foligno says one thing about the trade: the Blackhawks are doing it for Foligno as a nice gesture. He's been everything they could ask of him and more, so they are giving him a chance to take a run at the Stanley Cup.
He also gets to do so around his brother Marcus, and a Wild team loaded with stars. Before the season, Minnesota extended Kirill Kaprizov, who was there with Matt Boldy, Mats Zuccarello, Brock Faber, two great goalies, and many other above-average players.
In December, they made the big move to acquire Quinn Hughes from the Vancouver Canucks, so to say they're ready for a run would be an understatement. Now, the Foligno brothers get to be a part of it together.
