The Chicago Blackhawks and Ethan Del Mastro have agreed on a contract extension.
The Chicago Blackhawks announced on Wednesday, one day before training camp begins, that they have agreed to terms on a contract extension with Ethan Del Mastro. This is a two-year deal that will carry a cap hit of $950,000. This deal will begin in 2026-27 and go through the 2027-28 season.
The Blackhawks selected Del Mastro with their 4th-round pick (105th overall) in the 2021 NHL Draft. Since then, he has played in the IIHF World Championships, winning Gold twice (2022, 2023), and has been back and forth between the Chicago Blackhawks and Rockford IceHogs over the last couple of years.
With Chicago, in 45 games, Del Mastro has 2 goals and 5 assists for 7 points. With Rockford, in 161 games, he has 9 goals and 55 assists for 64 points. In the Calder Cup Playoffs, Del Mastro has 1 goal and 3 assists in 11 games.
Although the Blackhawks' blue line is crowded with young players, Del Mastro will get his chance at camp to show his worth. If he ends up on waivers after camp, someone else may get to take a chance on furthering his development. If he goes unclaimed in that scenario, he will get AHL time to continue working.
This is the last RFA that the Blackhawks needed to lock up before camp begins. They now have their full roster of available players ready to go for 2026-27 training camp.
