Chicago Blackhawks forward Teuvo Teravainen and Team Finland took down Team Sweden in overtime.
The Chicago Blackhawks have a great player in Teuvo Teravainen. While the rest of the team is on a break, Teravainen is representing his country of Finland at the Four Nations Faceoff.
After being dominated by Team USA on Thursday, the Finnish were looking to rebound strongly against their biggest rival, Sweden.
Things started poorly for the Finns in this one. A bad pass led to William Nylander making a brilliant play to set up a good chance for Mika Zibanejad who didn't miss.
Finland scored two straight goals from there to take a 2-1 lead. After that, the game became one of those all-time greats between these two heated rivals.
Sweden scored two consecutive goals to take a 3-2 lead before the Finnish eventually tied it back up. After nobody else scored in regulation, overtime was needed.
This was the second game in a row where Sweden was forced to play in the three-on-three period. The first time, they lost to Canada.
Finland finally earned a point with this overtime appearance and they desperately needed to get the second. They did when Mikael Granlund won it for his country. 4-3 was the final.
Thanks to this result, Teravainen's team will have a chance at the championship game depending on their result on Monday and the results of the other three teams beforehand.
Chicago's lone representative at the Four Nations Faceoff didn't see much ice time for Finland as he only had 6:23 of ice time on 10 shifts. That is the fewest amount for any forward on the team in both categories.
For being a guy on the team near the top in NHL points per game and points overall this season, they might want to get him some more ice. Playing on the fourth line isn't it for him.
Former Chicago Blackhawks goalie Kevin Lankinen is the winning goalie in this one. He made 21 saves on 24 shots to earn the win. He allowed three goals but he did just enough to give his team a chance to win the hockey game.
Now, Finland will wait to see how things go before they take on Team Canada on Monday afternoon at TD Garden in Boston.
