Chicago Blackhawks forward Teuvo Teravainen will miss the rest of the IIHF World Championships due to injury.

Chicago Blackhawks forward Teuvo Teravainen will miss the rest of the 2026 IIHF World Championships due to an injury that he sustained in Finland’s 3-1 victory over Germany. It remains unclear what the injury is and how long it will keep him off the ice.

Teravainen was Chicago’s only Olympian in 2026, so he has played a lot of hockey since the beginning of the season. Despite having a down year, he still wanted to go and represent his country in this tournament, but the dream of winning a Gold Medal will have to rely on his teammates.

In the one game that Teuvo played, he had two assists. He was poised for a big showing after a tough NHL season for him personally, but it ended there. Now, he must rehab and be ready for a bounce back in the NHL next fall.

The Blackhawks still have six other players in Switzerland competing in this tournament. It isn’t a “best on best” like the Olympics or Four-Nations Face-Off, but it means a lot to different people for different reasons.

For Teravainen, you can’t fault him for his effort. However, it’s time for a reset. He looked good with Finland in game one, but now it’s his chance to prepare for 2026-27 and forget about the struggles he faced in 2025-26.
