The Colorado Avalanche are currently among the top teams in the NHL and are preparing for the postseason because of it. While this is the case, it also appears that they are also focusing on the future and browsing the market for undrafted college free agents.
According to Daily Faceoff's Frank Seravalli, the Avalanche are one of the several teams expressing interest in top college free agent Collin Graf. Here is what the insider had to say on the matter: "It’s probably easier to list the teams who haven’t been in on Graf. A lot of Western Conference teams (are involved) as well, like the Colorado Avalanche, Arizona Coyotes, and San Jose Sharks. The Edmonton Oilers have spent a long time watching Graf, and another team in the East is Pittsburgh."
Collin Graf Hearing that the Avs are kicking tires on Graf is not shocking at all. The right winger showed a plethora of promise at the collegiate level with Quinnipiac. In 74 games with the school over the last two seasons, he had 43 goals and 107 points. That's outstanding offensive production.
There's no question that the Avalanche could use a skilled forward prospect who has the tools to become an impactful NHL player in the near future. We will need to wait and see if their interest leads to them landing him from here. His decision should be coming shortly.
