Colorado got shut out by Florida for the team's fourth loss in a row and is working on finding a solution to this downfall.
The Avalanche suffered their fourth consecutive loss against the Florida Panthers and have struggled to get back to their game prior to the All-Star break.
Alexandar Georgiev played a solid game despite allowing four goals on a total of 43 shots. His team was unable to provide him with some offense and head coach Jared Bednar said as much.
"I thought he was pretty sharp. I mean we make a couple of mistakes in the penalty kill, got caught in between coverage, dangerous power play, especially (Panthers forward Sam) Reinhart in the middle," Bednar said. "I mean, he faced some dangerous shots — I thought he looked pretty crisp and clean for most of the game but you give up some of the most dangerous ones off the turnovers in the third period was kind of ugly on the breakout side of things. So that's not on Gorgie (Georgiev) that's on the team in front of him tonight."
The 27-year-old netminder said he is focused on not being frustrated and is confident his team will get back to their winning ways.
"Definitely we were winning so much, get used to it. But it takes doing the small things, small details right — PK, power play and everybody on board," Georgiev said. "Right now it's a little tougher game but we'll get through it. Everybody just has to kind of take it one shift at a time, one shot at time and good things will happen if you don't get frustrated."
There is an apparent disconnect with the team, and as a leader in the room, Mikko Rantanen said it needs to figure out a solution.
"It's tough right now for sure — for the whole team offensively. We're not getting enough rhythm I feel like and and not creating enough. I think we're working hard, you know certain points like now it's just, I feel like it's tough. But it is sometimes — now we just got to find solutions. Maybe when you're struggling offensively we've got to simplify and focus more on the defending side and try to shut it down the own end. Maybe that could get us some bounces and go from there."
Rantanen said the team needs to move past this loss and "stay positive" to be mentally prepared for the next game against the Washington Capitals on Tuesday.
Nathan MacKinnon left midway through the third period after cutting his chin on a fall to the ice. Bednar said he got "some work" but had not gotten an update from the trainers at that point after the game.
