Tonight will be a big start for this Avalanche goaltender.

Avalanche head coach Jared Bednar said he is throwing his new forward into the fire to start off a six-game road trip.

The Colorado Avalanche are gearing up for a much-anticipated matchup against the Carolina Hurricanes tonight (Feb. 8). The Hurricanes are among the top teams in the NHL, so the Avalanche will have a real test in front of them. However, this game will be pretty significant for Avalanche goaltender Alexandar Georgiev specifically.

With his start tonight, Georgiev will pass Craig Anderson for the 11th most games played by a goaltender in Avalanche history. It will be Georgiev's 105th appearance with the club.

Georgiev, 27, has been heavily relied upon by the Avalanche since joining the team last season. He made 62 appearances last season and is already at a league-leading 42 games (among goaltenders) this campaign. Over that span, he has put together a 67-27-9 record, a .911 SV%, a 2.67 GAA, and seven shutouts. He also made his first All-Star Game appearance earlier this month.

Overall, acquiring Georgiev from the New York Rangers back during the 2022 NHL offseason has been a home run of a move. It will be fun to see how he performs against the Canes in this notable start from here.
