Nathan MacKinnon nearing major scoring milestone

Nathan MacKinnon is inching closer to a big milestone.

Mikko Rantanen and Miles Wood will miss the final regular-season matchup against the Central Division rival Dallas Stars due to injury.

Colorado Avalanche superstar Nathan MacKinnon is one of the NHL's frontrunners for the Hart Memorial Trophy this season. He has been nothing short of magnificent, as he has a whopping 131 points in 77 games. He has already set new career highs in goals, assists, and points.

While MacKinnon has already set some notable milestones this season, he is inching closer to another significant one. The 2013 first-overall pick only needs two more goals to hit the 50-goal mark for the first time in his career.

MacKinnon, 28, has a good chance of reaching goal No. 50 of the campaign. He has five games left to score two more goals, which is within reach.

However, MacKinnon will be without his star winger, Mikko Rantanen, for the next little bit. Avalanche head coach Jared Bednar shared that Rantanen is in concussion protocol and is considered to be out day-to-day. That is not ideal, as the pair, of course, have remarkable chemistry. However, MacKinnon still has the potential to do it without his playmaking forward.

Nevertheless, it will be fun to see if MacKinnon can reach 50 goals before the regular season is complete. It would only help build his case to be named this year's MVP.
