The Colorado Avalanche defenseman can tie an NHL record tonight.

The Colorado Avalanche will play against the Boston Bruins tonight in a 5 PM Mountain Time matchup at TD Garden. This has all the makings of being an entertaining matchup, as the Avalanche and Bruins are two of the top teams in the NHL right now.

However, there's another reason why all Avalanche fans should be watching this contest. Avalanche superstar defenseman Cale Makar has the opportunity to make NHL history tonight, and coincidentally, the Bruins are connected to it.

If Makar gets two assists tonight, he will match Bruins great Bobby Orr (279 games) as the fastest defenseman in NHL history to reach 300 career points. 

It would be quite the story if Makar did this against the Bruins, as Bobby Orr is the greatest player in their franchise history. As a result, fans of both teams will be watching Makar extremely closely in this big contest. 

In 278 career games, Makar has 75 goals, 298 points, and a plus-10 rating. It will be fun to see if he makes history tonight, but either way, the beginning of his career has been remarkable.
