The former Colorado Avalanche goaltender has a new job - in the NHL.
The Colorado Avalanche enjoyed a morning matinee game Saturday afternoon. They played the Philadelphia Flyers at the Wells Fargo Center - and defeated the home team by a final score of 7-4.
They received contributions from several players including Logan O'Connor. O'Connor netted his first career hat trick, while Mikko Rantanen and Nathan MacKinnon added to their impressive point totals.
While this game was ongoing it appears that the New York Islanders were busy behind the scenes. They announced the firing of Lane Lambert and the hiring of a new coach - Patrick Roy.
Patrick Roy.Roy famously played as a goalie for the Montreal Canadiens and the Avalanche - in a career spanning 19 years. He was the recipient of the William M. Jennings trophy, Vezina Trophy, Conn Smythe Trophy and the ultimate prize, the Stanley Cup.
Three years after his final playing year he transitioned into a head coaching position with the Quebec Ramparts of the QMJHL. Eight years there was enough for him to earn him an opportunity to coach the Avalanche. His tenure was only for three years, and the team only made the playoffs once during that time.
Patrick RoyAfter he left he went back to the Ramparts for five years. After winning the championship last year he decided to leave the organization. It seems like he has now found his new gig.
