Nathan MacKinnon has kept his home point scoring streak alive with a goal and an assist going into the third period against the Dallas Stars.
The 28-year-old center owns the franchise record for season-opening home point scoring streaks with Wayne Gretzky’s 40-game run in 1988-89 as the longest scoring streak since start of the season. MacKinnon is now sixth in NHL history for longest point scoring streaks.
The Halifax, Nova Scotia native got the assist on Mikko Rantanen's goal, who according to NHL stats, has assisted on 128 of his Finnish linemate’s 251 career goals to date. Gabriel Landeskog is the next closest with only 44.
MacKinnon stands in the No. 2 spot for points in the NHL with 96 (as of third period of Stars game) behind Tampa Bay Lightning's Nikita Kucherov (103). He has three fewer assists than Kucherov and eight behind Connor McDavid.
The Avalanche go on the road for two games then MacKinnon will have the opportunity to continue his streak on Monday, March 4 when the Avs face off against the Chicago Blackhawks.
