This summer, Spencer Lazary and I will continue our series with more potential free agent targets that could be on the market on July 1st.
Today, we talk about 9-year vet, and former CBJ Jack Roslovic.
Target: Jack Roslovic - D - Age: 28 - 9 Years Experience
Jack Roslovic was drafted by the Winnipeg Jets in 2015, and was traded to the Columbus Blue Jackets on January 23, 2021, as a "throw-in" piece in the Patrik Laine/Pierre-Luc Dubois trade. Roslovic is anything but a throw-in in my opinion.
Roslovic played 246 games as a Jacket, but the much maligned Roslovic was traded to the New York Rangers on March 8, 2024.
He then signed with the Carolina Hurricanes for one season.
Stats
Roslovic played 81 games this past season for the Canes, scoring a career-high 22 goals, 21 of them even-strength, but he only had three power-play points. Of his 22 goals, only FIVE were scored after the calendar changed to 2025—not good. He also had only 14 points in that same time frame. He has one goal and three assists in seven playoff games this season.
Roslovic is averaging 41 points per 82 games played.
Previous Salary
Roslovic signed a 1 year, $2,800,000 contract with a cap hit of $2,800,000 per season on July 4, 2024. Contract experts put his next deal at three years, with a cap hit of $4.1 million per season.
Realistic Chances Of A Signing: Ice Cold
Jack Roslovic will get a good deal somewhere, but not in Columbus. The Columbus-area native, who spent four seasons playing at home, just isn't a good fit for the Blue Jackets anymore. Not only is he a very streaky player, but the constant rumors of him having an attitude issue and being a locker room problem won't go away.
Don Waddell would be wise to go another direction on this one.
