The Columbus Blue Jackets have announced the hiring of a new strength and conditioning coach.
Barry Brennan will take over the role. He previously served as the club’s strength and conditioning coach for five seasons from 2005 to 2010.
Blue Jackets general manager Don Waddell spoke about the hire in the team’s press release.
“Barry Brennan is a well-respected, experienced leader in his field and we are very pleased to welcome him back to the Blue Jackets,” said Waddell. “Ryan Gadbois has done a phenomenal job for us as our assistant strength and conditioning coach, and we believe our players will benefit greatly from working with Barry and Ryan.”
Brennan brings 30 years of experience as a trainer across multiple levels of hockey. He spent time in the Ontario Hockey League with the Kingston Frontenacs, London Knights, and Ottawa 67’s before moving to the American Hockey League. In the AHL, he worked with the Syracuse Crunch, which was previously Columbus’ affiliate.
After his first stint with the Blue Jackets ended in 2010, Brennan joined the Atlanta Thrashers. From there, he went overseas to the KHL in Russia to work with CSKA, where former Blue Jackets forward Sergei Fedorov was involved with the club.
