With NHL training camps in full swing, the Columbus Blue Jackets have a big season in front of them. The offseason did not bring a ton of changes, but it still feels like there is room for a few prospects to push for an opening-night spot. And even if they do not make it right away, there is one player in particular fans should be watching closely.

That is Luca Del Bel Belluz. You could make the case he is the top prospect in the organization, and he has a real shot to make the jump this year. Last season with the Cleveland Monsters, he put up 53 points in 61 games, showing he is more than capable of bringing offense. If he were to stick, he would likely slide into a third or fourth line role and give that group some much-needed scoring punch.

As things stand, Charlie Coyle looks like the favorite to start as the third line center, which would push Isac Lundestrom down to the fourth line. Either one of them could work with Del Bel Belluz given their two-way style, though the fourth line with Lundestrom feels like the more realistic landing spot right now.

On the wings, the competition is tight. Newcomer Miles Wood, veteran Zach Aston-Reese, and youngster Mikael Pyyhtiä are all in the mix. It might come down to Del Bel Belluz battling Pyyhtiä for that final spot, with both of them likely to see time if injuries pop up or the team needs an offensive spark during the season.

Of course, it is all going to depend on his preseason. If the organization wants him to develop more in the AHL a little longer, they can afford to be patient. But when he does arrive full-time, he should be even more polished and ready to contribute. Either way, there is going to be plenty of attention on him in camp, and for good reason.
